  History of the Double Hung Window If you notice the old stand alone farm house in the country, you will see tall trees around the house to provide shade. This has a cooling effect for the house and the surrounding area. These older homes also had a lot of windows that were tall and narrow. The tall windows would project light deep inside the house. This was particularly helpful before electricity when lighting was poor. In order to get this cool air from outside of the house to inside the hot house is where the Double Hung Window comes in. By lowering the top sash this allows the rising hot air to flow out and by raising the lower sash a little, allowed cool air from outside to flow in creating a convection effect. That is the old fashion air conditioning. May is Lupus awareness month.  During this month the color purple, the purple ribbon and the butterfly are used to recognize Lupus awareness.  Events are held throughout the month and year to raise funds for Lupus research.  Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease that occurs when the body's immune system attacks its own tissues and organs. Inflammation caused by lupus can affect many different body systems — including the joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart and lungs.  Lupus can be very difficult to diagnose and is often very debilitating.  Sadly, there is no known cure for Lupus. Several years ago one of our employees was diagnosed with Lupus.  Seeing her health struggles made us aware of the many in our nation who struggle with Lupus each day.  As a result, all of us at Window Man have supported Lupus awareness month for the past five years.  Each May we pull together a team to walk in the "Walk to End Lupus Now" event.  During this time we welcom

I have to admit, I am a bit of a do-it-yourselfer.  However, it seems like each year I discover another thing that is just best left to the professionals. A few years ago, before I met the amazing team of professionals at Window Man Inc, I decided to give exterior door installation a shot.  We had an old door at the back of our house that just did not hold up well through the years.  My wife suggested we hire the professionals but I had determined to do it myself.  Against my wife's better judgement, we headed down to the local hardware store, picked out a door and made our way back to the house.  After about an hour I had the old door and frame out and was shocked at the amount of damage the water leaking around the old door had caused.  With a large opening in the back of the house, I headed back to the hardware store for more supplies.  I spent the rest of my afternoon fixing the wood and finally had the door in place just in time to keep the mosquitos out.  Feeling rea

SPRING HAS ARRIVED!  It looks like spring has really finally arrived and beautiful weather is here!  There is nothing quite like getting through a long, cold winter and throwing your windows open on both sides of the house and letting the wind rush through.  The smell of spring and the feeling of the fresh wind in the house is amazing.  Almost as amazing as the feeling of the spring wind coming through the windows is the joy of opening a reduced power bill.  Spring really is a win, win!
